How tool guidance is written
Instructions are based on the controls and outputs currently available in each tool. We avoid claiming a file is uploaded, downloaded or processed locally unless that behaviour is supported by the implementation.
How calculators are checked
Calculator inputs, formulas, units, boundary cases, reset behaviour and representative outputs are tested. Estimates identify important assumptions and rounding where those details affect interpretation.
Sources and changing rules
For health, tax, finance and other sensitive subjects, we prefer authoritative public sources such as GOV.UK, HMRC, NHS, the Bank of England and recognised technical standards. Time-sensitive rules and rates are reviewed when the relevant source changes.
Corrections
Reports are investigated against the current interface, calculation and cited source. Confirmed errors are corrected in the tool or guidance, tested, and reflected in the reviewed date where appropriate.
